5 Tips on How to Start Teaching Yoga

Are you enthusiastic and ready to begin teaching yoga but you feel a little unsure and scared? Usually after finishing a yoga teacher training session, one may feel overwhelmed by the need to share the fantastic information they acquired. However, unless you are enrolled onto an existing schedule after completing the teacher training, figuring out how and where to start teaching yoga can be challenging.   1. Begin as soon as possible

It is important to start teaching yoga while you are still motivated & enthusiastic and the training is fresh in the mind in order to ease and manage the bouts of disappointments that you are likely to experience every now and then. Decide on the location for yoga training based on the opportunities available such as mentorships, internships and accessibility to the targeted market. This can be at the gym, studio, at home or any other place you find comfortable.

  1. Keep it simple

To make your work and that of the student easier, keep your class simple. Begin with easy and comfortable practices that are accessible to fresh beginners. Teach this one class until all the students are comfortable then you can advance with time. Always ensure that you keep the needs of the students in mind and not how much information you have and want to share.

  1. Gather your tools

Do you want to stand out between others and keep your students coming back? To make your class challenging and inspiring, you may diverse it a little to make it more engaging. To improve your student’s retention, you may include musical performance in your yoga teaching. One of the best instruments fitting for a yoga class would be a RAV Vast drum. Showing up opens your channels to more opportunities and when people see your commitment, reliability and abilities as a teacher, they know they can rely on you. This way, you are likely to get more teaching opportunities, more sub gigs all of which will help you grow as a yoga teacher

  1. Stay inspired

Ensure that the motivation and enthusiasm you had when you started as a yoga teacher remains to the very end. Follow up with people to remind them that you are interested in training them more. Although many might turn your offer down, always stay inspired and motivated to become the best version of yourself.


Starting out as a yoga teacher should be fun and exciting. Always stay relaxed, be honest about your strengths and weaknesses as a teacher and be ready to learn from other teachers, your students, yoga websites, yoga philosophy and other yoga sites. Keep the students happy and always practice what you teach. Lastly, practice – remember, practice makes perfect!
